Privacy Policy

What we collect

SNIP does not create accounts, does not require sign-in, and has no server of its own.

SNIP collects only the following anonymous information through Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics) to improve the app. This is the same on iOS and Android.

• Which features were used (for example: saving a piece, stamp style, exporting a canvas) and whether they succeeded
• Durations and counts grouped into ranges rather than exact values
• Free or Pro status
• Crash logs when the app quits unexpectedly, with device model, OS version and app version

We do not collect the advertising identifier (IDFA), do not track you for advertising, and do not create any account or persistent identifier that could identify you.

Turning off Settings → Send usage data stops all of the above immediately.

Converting location coordinates to a place name is done by Apple's system service (see Location below); the developer is not involved and receives nothing.

What we do not collect

Photos you take or import, cut-out pieces and stamp images, canvas results, typed letters, goal phrases, category names, file names and paths never leave the device. The only exception is when you turn on sync in SNIP Pro, and even then they are stored only in your own iCloud or Google Drive (see Cloud Sync below). The place name and capture time attached to a piece also never leave the device.

Stored on your device

All of the following is stored only in the app's private storage (the app sandbox) and does not leave the device.

• Piece images cut from photos you took or imported
• Each piece's category (Korean, English, numbers, symbols, patterns), typed letter, favorite mark and creation date
• The date a piece was captured and, if you allowed location access, the place name where it was taken (for example "Yeonnam-dong, Seoul")
• The layout of pieces on your canvases
• Result images you created on a canvas and saved to the app library

No one, including the developer, can view this data. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

If you have device backup turned on (iCloud Backup, Google account backup, or computer backup), this data may be included in that backup. Those backups are governed by Apple's or Google's privacy policy; SNIP is not involved.

Cloud Sync (optional · SNIP Pro)

With SNIP Pro you can turn on sync to keep your library the same across devices. It is off by default; nothing leaves the device unless you turn it on.

• On iOS, files are stored in a SNIP-only container in Apple iCloud Drive; on Android, in a hidden app-only folder in Google Drive. Only SNIP can read or write either location, and SNIP never accesses your other files or photos.
• What is stored is exactly what is listed under "Stored on your device" — piece and stamp images, lists, canvas layouts, result images, category names.
• On Android, turning sync on shows a Google account picker once. SNIP does not store the account's email address or name; it only receives permission to access its own Drive app folder.
• Files exist only in your own Apple or Google account storage. SNIP has no server and the developer cannot view them. Apple and Google encrypt the data in transit.
• Turning sync off leaves the library on the device and does not delete the cloud copy (another device may still be using it). Uninstalling the Android app makes Google delete the Drive app folder. The iCloud container can be removed under Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage.
• The cloud storage itself is governed by Apple's or Google's privacy policy.

Why we use permissions

Camera

Used to photograph letters and printed matter you come across, on the spot. The photo goes straight to the cut-out screen, and only the cut-out piece is saved in the app. The original photo is not kept.

Location (optional · iOS)

Used only to record where a piece was collected. Location is measured once when you enter the camera screen, converted to a place name (for example "Yeonnam-dong, Seoul") by Apple's system service, and only that name is stored on the device. Exact coordinates are never stored and nothing is sent to the developer. If you decline, everything still works; pieces simply won't carry a place.

Add to Photos

Used only when saving a result you made to the Photos app. On iOS this is a write-only permission, so SNIP cannot read your existing photos; on Android this save does not use any photo permission.

Import from album

No photo-library permission is requested. The operating system's photo picker runs outside the app, and only the single photo you choose is handed to SNIP. SNIP cannot see your whole album.

If you decline a permission, the app still works. If you decline the camera, importing from the album remains available.

Letter recognition

All recognition of letters and shapes happens on the device. iOS uses Apple's Vision and Android uses Google ML Kit; in neither case is a photo sent anywhere for analysis.

On Android, Google Play services downloads the recognition model ML Kit uses to the device once. That download is performed by Google Play services; SNIP does not send photos or app data along with it.

In-app purchase

SNIP Pro is purchased only through Apple's App Store on iOS and Google Play billing on Android. Payment details are handled by Apple or Google; SNIP neither receives nor stores them. Purchase verification happens on the device, and statistics record only whether a purchase succeeded or failed and the amount, anonymously.

Children's privacy

SNIP does not collect personally identifiable information from any user, including children.

Third parties

Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports are processed by Google Firebase under Google's privacy policy. If you turn on sync, your library files are stored in your own Apple iCloud or Google Drive account under each company's privacy policy. Nothing is passed to the developer. No other information is provided or sold to third parties.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above is revised and the change is announced with an app update.
